It has come to my attention that Borders is in the process of throwing away TENS of THOUSANDS of unsold books once their over 200 stores close at the end of January. As a former Borders employee, I know that some of their practices are not always in their customers, or even employees, best interest. However, this new practice disgusts me to a new level.
With the economy the way it is and with the way some libraries suffering, you might think that one of the largest bookstores in the country would take the high road and do something better with a large amount of books besides this:
The picture shows possibly hundreds of discarded books in a Waldenbooks dumpster. It is being said that the company believes that it is cheaper to rip of the covers and trash them instead of donating to local schools, libraries, etc.
