Let me just start by saying I love Michael Cera. And Jason Schwartzman. And Kieran Culkin. So this movie started off with some pretty high points for simply throwing them all together so their awesomeness may combine. I also just finished reading the whole series, so I was ready and raring to go! Now, in the movie they added quite a few things, they made the action scenes a lot longer during some of Scott's battles. It wasn't that bad but, meh, I could have done with less action and more Scott. One thing I missed from the comics to the big screen, is the epic battle in the mega reference library between Ramona and Knives. They just took it right out, which was a big disappointment to me. This movie on a whole was epic in it's own right. There are always going to be comparable differences between the book and the movie, but the difference between these two didn't make either and less awesome. If you like video games and comic books than this movie(and book series) is definitely right up your alley. Unless you like bad video games and boring comic books, in which case you are on your own. Sorry ;)
I loved this movie too. SO cute, fun and original. I haven't read the graphic novels though so I didn't have anything to compare it to.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the movie as a companion to the books. I didn't really like how they shortened the timeframe into a matter of weeks rather than months; it made their relationship less important. I do think they did a great job of introducing the exes without rushing through them. The twin should have had dialogue, though! What a shame they just stood on stage. But speaking of stage, the musical numbers were all fabulous.
